Financial Statement Audit

An audit is the highest level of assurance that a CPA performs in order to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statement are free from material misstatement. An audit is typically appropriate, and often required, when seeking complex or high levels of financing and credit. An audit is also appropriate when seeking outside investors or when preparing to sell or merge with another business. The benefits of an audit go beyond just a report showing compliance. We will gain a high-level understanding of your organization's business, internal control functions, and fraud risks. The typical procedures for an audit include:

  • Physical Inspection / Observation - we will perform physical inspections by observing your inventory counting methods and perform test counts
  • Third Party Confirmations - we will have written communication with your banks, attorneys, and some customers and vendors
  • Analytical Procedures - we will document and test each operating cycle, including sales and cash receipts, expenses and cash disbursements, and payroll transactions
  • Inquiries - we will maintain ongoing communication with your management team to help you monitor for any anomalies in the day-to-day operations

While we will be there for you every step of the way, it is important to note that we are required to maintain our independence and will not be able to assist in any management decisions.

Financial Statement Review

A review is the most common form of assurance of financial statement accuracy for small businesses. A review is less extensive than an audit and provides limited assurance that financial statements are free from material misstatement. While we are still required to be independent, in-depth transaction testing and internal control procedures are generally not performed during a review. The typical procedures for a review include:

  • Analytical Procedures
  • Inquiries

Agreed Upon Procedures

If you're just looking for a specific section of your financial statements to be reviewed, our agreed upon procedures services may be the right fit for you. We can test and review only your Long Term Debt, Fixed Assets, or Equity for example. We can also perform agreed upon procedures to test your internal controls or your payroll transactions. This is not subject to judgment on our part, and we will prepare a report to you that is presented on only the procedures agreed upon.

Consulting

As an alternative to our agreed upon procedures services, we can also provide consulting services for your organization. We will not provide a formal report, rather just your organization will be the beneficiary. We will generate information and present our findings, conclusions, and recommendations to you.

We take the pain and complexity out of financial audit & compliance and regulatory requirements by leveraging Continuum GRC.
